See or Perish

There is a saying “Where there is no vision, the people perish”. How true as there is no lack of examples. If we were to quote the reverse, it may sound like “Where there is vision, the people flourish”. One good example is Singapore. There are many who believe that Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew envisioned the image of present Singapore few decades ago. He then shared it with his team and built this great nation.

Are you already at your highest point as in life? If you are not, do you have a vision of how you will look like when you get there? Be it heading thousands of staff or earning big bucks or getting featured on media or touching countless lives, you need to see a vision – a vision of a successful you. That vision is necessary to help you get there.

Heading Somewhere
If you are not heading somewhere, you may be heading nowhere. Imagine a ship sailing without a destination! A vision gives you a direction to channel your resources such as time, money and energy wisely and purposefully. That vision should also be both motivating and attainable. There’s no harm starting with wild dreams. Consider this - What would you really love to do if you have all the freedom and resources in the world? Interestingly, the answer that most people give is not self-indulge but help others. If this is true for you, in what ways would you like to help others? Can you start something small so that you can eventually head somewhere?

Personal Mastery
Another version of “perish” is “cast off restraint”. That means refusing to practise self control or self discipline. Now that makes a lot of sense in explaining why many people such as students are not disciplined in life. It is not that they cannot but that they do not see the purpose of doing so. That purpose has to come from the vision. And personal mastery is lived when the vision is inspiring.

Take time to reflect on your vision and be determined to live life to the fullest.
